Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Do you snore? Do you feel tired or fatigued during the day? Do you find yourself drifting asleep while driving? If you answered yes to ANY of these questions you may have a sleep disorder called Obstructive Sleep Apnea.  It is estimated that more than 18 million Americans suffer from this sleep disorder, with approximately 90% of them undiagnosed and untreated!  Obstructive Sleep Apnea is caused by the entire upper airway becoming blocked causing airflow to stop.  If left untreated, patients can be at an increased risk for heart attack, stroke, high blood pressure, and fatigue-related motor vehicle and work accidents. Treatment for Obstructive Sleep Apnea Treatment options include: 1) CPAP – a machine that provides a flow of positive–pressure air through a mask to open the airway; 2) Oral Appliance – a small device, similar to an orthodontic retainer, that opens the airway by gently holding the lower jaw forward; and 3) Surgery to remove excessive soft tissue.
