Routine Periodontal Care

Periodontal (gum) maintenance is for patients who have completed scaling and root planing (deep cleaning) treatments.  At this appointment, we will remove any recurring bacteria and calculus in pockets under your gums and polish your teeth.  We will also complete a thorough gum evaluation, and compare our findings with those previously recorded to best assess the progression of your gum’s health.

Preventing the Progression of Gum Disease

Gum disease is cyclic.  Thus, a typical interval of three months between periodontal maintenance appointments results in an effective treatment schedule in maintaining gum health and catching the disease in an early stage if and when it returns.

Maintaining your scheduled periodontal maintenance appointments and excellent daily oral hygiene at home are two of the most important factors in preventing gum disease from recurring.
